Austin progressive alt.-folk acoustic string band MilkDrive features award-winning musicians -- Noah Jeffries on guitar, Dennis Ludiker on mandolin, Brian Beken on fiddle, and Matt Mefford on Double bass. Ludiker, who has toured with Asleep at the Wheel, won the 2009 RockyGrass Mandolin Contest and holds titles as the 2010 World Fiddle Champion, 2009 and 2008 Texas State-Fiddlers Frolics and 2002 Walnut Valley Music Festival Winner. Beken was the 2004 Texas Flatpick Guitar Champion. Jeffries won a Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival Jazz Guitar Competition. Awards are a great measure of technical prowess, but they reveal nothing about the musical soul so palpable in MilkDrive’s music; the quartet’s textural, multi-layer mix of rhythms, tempos, flavors, harmonies, improvisation; and the confidence each possesses that comes from experience with their instrument(s). ROAD FROM HOME, produced by Bil VornDick (who has produced for artists like Alison Krauss and Bela Fleck), is the group’s debut studio album.
See MilkDrive live at Texas on Tour from October 1 – October 9, 2011.

Most remote gig in Texas you have ever played? The Fischer Haus Cantina in Fischer, TX What’s your definition of Texas music? Pretty much any music coming out of Texas is my definition. Country is pretty big down here, so most people might say that. We live in Texas, so I guess we fit that category. Best place to see Texas music? Paramount Theatre in Austin, TX
Favorite Texas album? “De-loused in the Comatorium” by The Mars Volta. They are one of my favorite bands from El Paso. Place you’d take someone who’s never been to Texas? I'm not from Texas and Austin is by far the most interesting place in my opinion. So much great music, food, and culture. Where in Texas feels most unlike Texas? Austin. Nowhere else like it. Best four-day Texas vacation? Relaxing at our friend Tom’s ranch in Hallettsville, Texas.
Texas has a lot to see, do - and hear. Whatever your music pleasure, you're sure to find it here.
